Recently, the 2 # electroslag remelting furnace successfully produced the largest size, Ф 600, high speed tool steel M2 (6542) electroslag ingot, filled the domestic large size high speed tool steel electroslag ingot production blank.
M2 (6542) is a kind of high carbon and high alloy tool steel used in high speed cutting. It is the representative of the general type of high speed steel steel of tungsten molybdenum series with high hardness, high wear resistance, high hot hardness, high hardenability, enough in shape, and toughness, and has good casting, forging, welding and machining performance. It occupies very important position in the tool steel.
Because of the high concentration of alloy content (alloy content about 18%), M2 (6542) is commonly known as "wind steel". It has strong crack sensitivity, easy to produce cracks in the process of production. The production of large size electroslag ingot are extremely hard. Before, the largest size is Ф500 in domestic.
In order to improve the reliability of the development and production for the first time, the company developed detailed production planning before the production according to the steel character, slag series formula, consumable electrode welding preheating heat preservation, process parameter control, electroslag ingot surface temperature control, hot billet lifting and annealing. In the production process, the workshop and r&d technicians are tracking on-site to adjust parameter setting, according to the smelting situation in a timely manner, CLP slag smelting process on the ingot surface temperature real-time monitoring and records, the whole production process is stable, process parameter control precision and surface quality of the products is good, meet the requirement of the downstream customers.
The successfully developing of Ф 600 mm high-speed tool steel M2 (6542) electroslag ingot play a positive role in riching the electroslag ingot specifications and pushing the remelting steel production.
