January 10th, 2020, the National Science and Technology Awards Conference2019 was held at the Great Hall of the People. The project of “Development and application of the key technology of green and efficient electroslag remelting of high-quality special steel” which is jointly participated by Xingtai Steel won the first prize of National Science & Technology Progress Award. It was the first time that national steel industry has won this prize in 15 years.

　　The State Science and Technology Progress Award is one of three state-level science and technology awards established by the State Council, which also include the State Natural Science Award and the State Technological Innovation Award.There is a review each year. The projects which won the first prize are 15% of the whole winning projects. This year, only 22 projects won the first prize of National Science & Technology Progress Award. The project of “Development and application of the key technology of green and efficient electroslag remelting of high-qualityspecial steel” which is jointly participated by Xingtai Steel won the prize. As the principal head, Doctor Jiangfang also won the first prize of individual award.

　　Electroslag remelting is an important production method for manufacturing high-end special steels and special alloys which are widely applied in energy, transportation, aerospace and many other fields. Duringthe R＆D process, Xingtai Steel participated in testing, improving and applying this technology by using a double-stage series drawing-ingot-typeelectro-slag furnace and developed a series of high-quality products such as bearing steel, roller steel, die steel, stainless steel, nickel-base alloy. Among these, some productshave reached the standard of high-grade fine steel set by North American Die Casting Association and some customers have used it to replace the same imported products. These products are widely applied in domestic fields of automotive, railway, metallurgical machinery, aerospace and national defense equipment, which brings out remarkable social and economic benefits. Some products have replaced imports, providing strong support for the construction of major national projects and the manufacture of major equipment.
