Recently, a five-member delegation led by Zhang Yuming, Chairman of Xingtai Iron and Steel Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Xing Steel), and Tian Xinzhong, Chief Engineer, paid a special visit to Professor Zhu Rong’s team at the State Key Laboratory of Green and Low-Carbon Iron and Steel Metallurgy, University of Science and Technology Beijing (USTB). Against the backdrop of the green transformation and volume-reduction development of the iron and steel industry, the two sides held in-depth discussions focusing on green low-carbon electric furnace smelting technology, molten steel purification technology and intelligent control technology.

Professor Zhu Rong’s team has long been engaged in iron and steel smelting research. It has carried out fruitful scientific research, teaching and engineering research on green and low-carbon metallurgy. As a major pioneer in high-efficiency clean electric furnace smelting and CO₂ utilization in steelmaking in China, the team has made remarkable contributions to the advancement of low-carbon technologies for China’s iron and steel industry.

During the exchange, Professor Zhu Rong’s team presented cutting-edge technologies including near-zero carbon emission electric furnace smelting, green recycling of secondary iron and steel resources, as well as theoretical and technological innovations in digital intelligent metallurgy. The technical concepts are highly consistent with Xing Steel’s future development goals of high-end, green and low-carbon growth, offering abundant innovative ideas and constructive suggestions for the company’s high-end, eco-friendly and intelligent transformation.

This exchange not only enabled Xing Steel’s management team to draw advanced technical experience, but also constituted a vital strategic coordination as the company embarks on the new journey of the 15th Five-Year Plan. Taking this exchange as an opportunity, Xing Steel will further deepen industry-university-research collaborative innovation. Leveraging its distinctive process routes and the robust technical support from universities, the enterprise will strive to write a new chapter for the green and low-carbon transformation of the iron and steel sector.
